Holstein Heaven

Beefcake, the fatted half-Angus calf and Pretty Cow our Holstein

I’ve wanted a milk cow forever. I drink a LOT of milk and love to make butter and cheese, so Pretty Cow was a good choice for our ranch. Her calf will go to be processed in early June, then go into our freezers. Pretty is going to be bred by AI as soon as her estropatch turns fuschia. We’re going with Holstein semen with “female” straws this breeding. We’ll go back to an Angus bull the following breeding.

Beefcake is weaned right now and Pretty Cow has dried up. We’re expanding their pen and partitioning a section of the barn for them for the winter. Free stalls for ruminating and sleep, with loafing and snacking across the barn. Arizona isn’t all desert- we get winter temperatures in the teens and when blessed, a good amount of snowfall.

We plan to register as a Dairy Farm with Az Dept of Ag and go through their inspections so we can share both raw and pasteurized milk with Pretty’s next freshening. Sign up for our newsletter to be the first to know when we have milk!
