What the heck is a Farm Share?
Did you ever want to get a box of fresh veggies and fruit reserved for you throughout the growing season? You could even add on eggs and meat (when available)…
A Farm Share is your way of signing up to get a small or large box (or 2) of whatever is being harvested in our ranch gardens and orchard. Organically raised, without the hassle of certification, you can count on us to feed your family with delicious food every month. You can make one stop at the ranch to pick up your goodies on your scheduled pick up date.
We are working on setting up a ranch store so you can see what else we have available, which could be delicious baked or canned goods offered through our Cottage Food License, market bags and baskets, and recipe booklets to inspire your home cooking.
Farm Shares are also called CSAs (Community Supported Agriculture) in some areas. They have been around since the 1970’s and have proven a mutually beneficial way of getting freshly grown produce for your family while supporting the small farms and ranches in the community.
Our half-Angus steer will be fed out until late May or early June and then head to the butcher. We will be able to offer his meat for sale by farm boxes or as add-ons to the Farm Share boxes. Young chickens, about 4 lbs each, are frequently available as an add-on as well.
We breeding our Holstein milk cow to a Holstein bull by artificial insemination, the original AI (lol). When she calves, after allowing the calf to get what she (please, a heifer) needs- colostrum and maternal antibodies- we will start milking and offering raw and pasteurized milk for sale. While we’re waiting, we will be getting everything ready for the Az Dept. of Agriculture to come inspect the ranch and dairy set up so we can become a certified Dairy Farm. The process involves testing the animals as well as water supply, waste disposal and an array of requirements to keep the public safe.
Along with our farm share programs, we will have the ranch store open on Fridays during the growing season, and by appointment in the off season.
